Maddie Boreman finishes second at NCAA in Steeple Chase
Former Texas high school athletes always make their marks on the NCAA Track and Field championships, and this season was no different.
Current Colorado freshman and Leander Rouse graduate Maddie Boreman got in on the act early in her career in this her freshman season. Last month, she won the Pac-12 championships and at the NCAA West Regional Preliminary rounds, Boreman came back home and placed third in the 3K Steeple Chase, at the University of Texas.
In kind of a surprise, Boreman wasn't finished as she placed first in her NCAA prelim heat, "I really didn't think I was going to make it to the finals." In the finals, she jumped right to the front of the pack and held the lead for majority of the race. With moves being made int he last couple of laps, she found herself making a move on the home stretch to move back into second place, "My plan was to kind of hang on and stay relaxed throughout the race." Boreman finishes with one of the top times in the NCAA this season and a new personal best of 9:46.48 and as an All-American.
