Analysis: Pena is the real deal and he is going all in on his senior year. Can he expound on his junior year success? In 2016, had a pretty good season and then he caught fire. Coming off of a state meet appearance in 2015, his first meet started with a 16:50.20, which is pretty modest for an athlete such as Pena. After a couple of low 16s he then went 15:48.46 at McNeil. It wasn't until the state meet that he showed his real potential when he went 15:33.59 at the UIL 6A state meet.
He then went on to run 9:24.36 in the 3200m on the track. Pena then dropped a 4:14.25 at Region 4-6A to earn his way to the UIL 6A state track meet where he went on to take 7th place.
Pena has already started off this season with a 15:58 5K. Can he continue to drop lower 15 min 5Ks and get on the award stand in Round Rock?
