Analysis: Hoffpauir is the new flavor of the year from The Woodlands. Every year, it seems like they add another athlete to take their turn amongst the state's best individual runners. Hoffpauir spent the most of the last two years climbing Highlander's pecking order. Last season, he became a solid in The Woodland's top seven and he made the most of it. He dropped a gem of a race at last year's UIL 6A state meet when he went 15:11.40 for a big time PR to earn seventh place. That enabled his squad to win their second consecutive 6A team title. Hoffpauir goes from The Woodlands' third or fourth runner to being their #1 this season. Do not discredit Hoffpauir as being the heir solely due to graduation. He will be anointed just as much from his hard work and because he has some wheels. His track PRs of 1:59.92 800m, 3:58.95 1500m, 4:14.75 1600m, 9:13.50 3200m, and 15:06.41 5k show he really is talented.
Can Hoffpauir move out of the shadows of his former teammates and become one of the best in Texas this season, lead his Woodlands squad to their third consecutive 6A title, and back to NXN? Coach Green preaches service before leadership. Hoffpauir has served, now is the time to see if he can lead.
