Watch: DeSoto's Kevin Modesto Drop Texas' New 400m Top Mark 48.26

Last year, DeSoto sophomore Kevin Modesto was a big part of one of the top 4x400 relays all season as his DeSoto squad in being one of the top teams all season long. This weekend, DeSoto showed that with the graduation of some of the upper classmen that he is now ready to make the move to the open 400m spot.

Modesto ran the 400m in his first meet of the 2018 season at the Texas Tech Under Armour HS Classic. In his preliminary heat, he opened up witha 48.95 going for 23.11 and 25.84 splits. That was just a warm up as he saved his best for the finals.

In the finals, he would attack the first 200m with even more aggressiveness than his previous race as he decisively ran for the lead at the break. Modesto would drop a first 200m split of 22.74 putting him in control of the race enabling hiim to run long and free, which is important for a tall and lengthy athlete.

The last 200m, he would exhibit his fitness as he would run an even faster final lap in the final just as he did in the first lap. He dropped a 25.52 split on the final lap en route to the fastest Texas indoor 400m mark of 48.26.
