The five Texas high school girls who competed at the Texas Tech Open
The 200m was the last open race of the day at the Texas Tech Open. On a weekend where we already saw some of the best high school athletes in the state of Texas take on college and post collegiate competitors and fare very well there was still one more race for them to compete in.
Kennedy Blackmon, Alexis Brown, Jayla Hollis, and Bailey Lear all lined up in the 200m. Jayla Hollis and Kennedy Blackmon lined up in heat four. Hollis, who took seventh place in the 60H on Friday and Blackmon who competed earlier today in the day taking fourth in the 400m were already two of the top 200m runners nationally were going head to head and against collegians. Hollis would take the win with Blackmon right behind in second place. Both girls would lower their already US top ten marks as Hollis would run 24.08 and Blackmon would improve to 24.15.
Brown and Lear both also previously competed at the meet. Brown took sixth in the 60m on Friday night and Lear won the 400m earlier in the day. Both girls lined up for heat five. Brown would finish first in the heat crossing the line with a time of 24.37 and Lear would finish second in 24.46.
The four high school girls would all place in the top ten out of 72 total runners.
