Sophomore Auhmad Robinson talks after a win in the 200m at The Woodlands HS Inv.
The Klein Forest High School boys track team is off to a flying start to the 2018 track season.
As a Region 2-6A team, their road to state is a difficult task, but it is becoming less murkier every week. The team did not qualify a single individual for the 2017 UIL 6A state track meet. Yet, that has not had an effect on this year's team.
The team is looking like a complete team, but it is also looking like a state meet contending team. The Golden Eagles are a team with possible state meet qualifiers with a sprinters, hurdler, half-miler, and relays.
Sophomore Auhmad Robinson is having a very good season. In just a short amount of time he as shown the ability to compete with the top competition in the long sprints. He has the 15th best 200m time with a 21.91 and a 48.93 400m time on the season.
This past weekend at the The Woodlands High School Invitational, senior teammate Ethan Phillips had a great individual meet as he ran two outstanding times for PRs. He first ran top 5 Texas time 1:56.67 in the 800m. Not to long afterwards, Phillips battle a tough 400m field and came out with a 48.60, a time that also seeds him as #5 in the state.
Klein Forest also has a couple one of Texas' top hurdlers. Senior Nolan Walker has racked up a couple of 110 hurdle wins in the last couple of weeks. He ran a 14.11 PR to land him at the #3 time in the state.
The relays events are not areas in which Klein Forest has issues with. If fact, the only issue for the coaching staff is deciding who will get to run on them. Having run a top 4x100 time with their 41.95, they have proven that they can sprint and get the stick around the track. However, that is just the beginning. The longer the relay, the faster Klein Forest gets. They ran a outstanding TX #4 1:26.97 in the 4x200. Phillips and Robinson teamed up with fellow 400m stud Christion Derrick to run another TX top 5 ranking 4x400 with a their 3:16.70 SB.
Klein Forest definitely has the usual hopes of every team to make it to the state meet and try to get a team trophy. As for Contender or pretender -- consider the Golden Eagles definite contenders to come out of Region 2-6A with a good group to possibly get on the awards stand at state.
