W2W4: What To Watch For At Region 3 In Each Classification

Region 3-5A

If you haven't understood by now that Region 3 will be full of fascinating races. The girls 5a race will be perhaps one of the best regional races in the state.

Montgomery's nationally acclaimed duo of Allison Wilson and Halena Rahmaan are not only two of the best in Texas but are proven to be two of the best in the nation. Wilson qualified for NXN last year and Rahmaan who was the UIL 6A champ also qualified for the Foot Locker Nationals. The race will also have the UIL 5A 800m champ from last year in Marble Falls sophomore Bailey Goggans who has drastically improve her individual 5K time.

Team wise, Montgomery has been to the state meet in 6A and should have a good shot at doing so in 5A. They will have to deal with last year's Region 3 champions Cedar Park as they are just as good as anyone in the region and they have had a battle tested season. Cedar Park is led by senior Sophia Roach and her who teammates who can potentially put a big part of their top five runners in the top 10. Add Leander Rouse, Magnolia, and Friendswood and the girls team battle could make for an epic race.

The boys 5A race will have some of the same players in the girls race team wise. The Montgomery boys come down from 6A where they were a state qualifying team last year and have a good and strong group heading into regionals. The Cedar Park boys were a trophy winning team at last year's state meet with their third place finish. This year, they have taken on some of the best competition in the state and should enter regionals with confidence. Friendswood is not only a drastically improved team, but they have an entirely new identity. With a new coach and identiity, both their girls and boys squads have been racing and look forward for this.

Individually, Alec Wright was a top ten individual finisher in 6A last year and could do the same this year in 5A. Cedar Park has a duo of Owen Daugherty and Jack Woods that will challenge Wright and a group from Willis that has been running well lately.
