Mackenzie Contreras is one of the top returning UIL 5A girls throwers for the 2019 season

The girls discus is seeing a big turn in how the Texas girls are improving. During this 2019 season, we have seen two girls throw in the160s. Pearland Dawson's Crystal Herpin and Zoe Burleson of Rocksprings have both improved by 10 feet since last season.

Each of the top ten girls have shown linear improvement each year they've been in high school.

Top Athlete Each Year:

2017: Zada Swoopes - Whitewright - 175-1
2016: Jannia Price - Killeen Ellison 155-6

So far this year, we have four girls who have thrown 45 feet in the shot put. Last year, there were only four through the entire season and they all graduated other than Keayla Dove from Cypress Cain. With three additional girls clearing 45 with a couple of weeks left in the season, things look to just now start heating up.
