UIL 2A Girls 4x400 Relay

The Girls from Sunray were trying to take all of the dramatics out of the UIL 2A girls 4x400 relay championships.

They got an incredible start and lead from their first leg who provided them with a good cushion for the remainder of the race.

However, San Saba had other intentions. They began to cut into the Sunray lead leg by leg and meter by meter. On the home stretch, the race was on and the San Saba anchor was chasing the Sunray anchor leg and was charging for the lead as the crowd began to cheer the two to the finish line.

The lead had all but disappeared by the time they two crossed the line, but Sunray was able to hold on to capture the state title with a 4:00.83 to 4:01.16 win.

UIL 2A Boys 4x400 Relay

The boys race was also an exciting exhibition. Sunray was once again in the thick of things, but this time it was the Holland and Mason boys team trying to make a push to take Sunray down.

Holland actually had the early lead as they handed off in first place after the second leg. Sunray was right there with them and then surged into the lead on the third leg.

As Sunray tried to move away, Holland lurked around until the final 100m of the anchor leg. As the anchors for both teams came around the bend, the crowd was on their feet urging both teams to the finish. Both squads fought each other every stem down the home stretch up to the finish line.

In the end, it was Holland recapturing the lead they once had and leaning to a .10 win (3:24.17 to 3:24.27) by a lean over Sunray.
