They're back on top! The Lancaster girls are one of the most storied programs in the state of Texas and they have been in the hunt for a state title year in and year out. This year, they climbed back to the topUIL 5A girls spot.

Lancaster scored 60 points to beat the Fort Bend Marshall girls by 8 points. Two relay wins in the 4x100 (45.89) and 4x200 (1:37.74) to help lead that push. They got the rest of their points from a pair of individual state championship performances from junior Aysia Ward in the 200m and senior Kiera Smith in the 100H.

Fort Bend Marshall was on a mission all year long to win their consecutive UIL 5A team title.  They overcame season ending injuries to state meet point scorers from last year and still managed to put themselves in a position to control the controllables.

The Buffalo sprint relays have been a major part of their success over the years and this year their quartets did not fall short one bit. Marshall got 60 points from their relays including a UIL 5A state record and the 2nd fastest US All-Time mark of 1:23.38 in the 4x200.

They also got a total of 26 points from their individual performers including individual champions Devon Achane (200m), and Matthias Petterway (300H) to tally 86 points to outlast Lancaster's 56 points for second.
