5A Girls
The UIL 5A Girls truly had the best girls in the state of the classification in this race. The state record holder and two time state champ London Culbreath was in the race as were eight other girls trying to take her down.
The race was not set out to be fast with the state title on the line, but the strategy in it made this a classic. With 400m to go, there were four girls in the hunt for the win, the kicks were on.
Only one second separated the top four girls as Culbreath was ale to hold off the field and capture her third and most difficult and perhaps the most rewarding championship of her career.
5A Boys
You would be hard pressed to find a better field than this. A loaded field led to a bomb of a race! Cruz Gomez ran to the front of the race from the get go and paced the race to a fast result.
With a 4:34.8 first mile, defending champ Graydon Morris took his turn to pace and lead. With one lap to go, it became a three man race as Gomez, Morris, and Cameron Kleiman all ran to sub 9:10 races with Gomez getting the win.
