3A 400m Girls

The UIL 3A Girls 400m state record was in jeopardy today. The mark of 54.84 that was set way back in 1974 by Essie Kelley from Spur held on for one more year, surviving a strong press from Yierra Flemmings. Flemmings had a very impressive race where she started strong making up most of the stagger by 200m. The Cameron Yoe sprinter won in dominant fashion taking the gold medal with a 54.98, just .14 of the record 47-year-old record.

It was a photo finish for second and third place between Makki Hart from Shallowater who took the silver with a 57.12 and Torrye Tyler from Brock who was doubling back from her 800m victory earlier in the afternoon taking the bronze with a 57.46.

3A 400m Boys

The Zamzow family is just about as close to Texas track and field royalty as you can get. Cutler Zamzow earned his stripes this afternoon by winning the UIL 3A boy's 400m. After finishing third as a sophomore in 2019, this was just the maturation process and time taking its course.

The Goliad senior used a strong backstretch push to get good positioning and set himself up for a good swing off the curve.

McGregor's Darieus Dixon gave the race all he had early on to try and keep his position in the front. Bradley Peralta kicked and passed Darius with James Farmer-Cole right behind them. Zamzow blew through the finish line with a time of 47.87 and Bradley was not too far behind with a 48.05. James Farmer-Cole stole third place with a time of 48.22.
