Taytum Goodman crosses the finish line as the 1A girls 800m champion
Earth Springlake freshman Taytum Goodman already entered the state track meet as a champion; she won the cross country title back in November and was looking to some more winning in Austin. And she did.
UIL 1A Girls 800m
The fastest time of 2:18.23 coming into this race was held by the freshman Taytum Goodman from Earth Springlake.
Goodman took off at a fast pace with the pack trailing about 50 meters behind her through the first 400m. Goodman passed the halfway point with a split of 1:04.55 and never looked back.
Goodman well in the lead with 200m to go. Makayla Bowman of Aquilla held a commanding advantage in the number two spot with the rest pack trailing behind her.
Goodman broke the 1A conference record with a time of 2:17.45. Makayla Bowman captured the silver with a time of 2:25.59 and Selissa Gonzales of Lasara with a time of 2:27.78 won the bronze.
UIL 1A girls 1,600m
After finishing third in the 400m, Goodman was back at it in the 1,600m. She went dropped splits of 1:07.89 and 2:27.29 in he first two laps to give her an early 50m lead.She was on record pace though 1,200m and that is when the crowd began to help her out giving her a hand as she came around.
She motored home to seal the deal to grab her third individual state track meet medal, her second win and a record breaking 1,600m performance the with her 5:06.78 run.
Emma Kleman of Nazareth finished second in 5:29.55 and Carlie Willison of Munday was third in 5:32. 07.
