
This track season was different on the boy's distance running scene.
With no indoor season, outdoor running started early. The North Texas Distance and Southlake Running Co. events got things going for many runners with their 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m specific events that started in January as well as the Schrader 1600m. There were also several Texas boys who went out of state to get some national championship level type running in.
Those events produced very fast times for several runners. Judson Greer ran fast early with his 4:10.06 and 8:49.29; Ben Shearer also ran some early fast time, only later to surpass those even though he sparingly ran throughout the year. Greer would later get injured and was unable to run during the the peak season.
