El Paso's Parra Law Road Race Returns For 5th Annual Run

With 2020 is the rear view mirror it looks like sports are finally back on track. Before each cross country season, the Eastwood running club hosts one of the most unique races of the year, the Parra Law Road Race. Last year due to the pandemic their annual race had to be canceled. This year we will have a venue change that is using a course we saw in late 2020 at the El Paso UIL District meet with some minor changes. It will be taking place at the Vista Hills County Club. Many El Paso teams will be represented as well as a showcase from the Big 3: San Elizario, Eastwood and Tornillo!

What's great about this race is it very much mirrors the preseason games we get in professional sports. We will get a good look of returning Champs as well as upcoming athletes who are ready to make their mark city and state wide! Some notable participating athletes:

Boys:

Matthew Engle - Sophmore - Franklin HS

Diego Flores - Junior - Franklin HS

Andres Gurrola - Senior - Eastwood HS

Isaac Mendoza - Senior - Eastwood HS

Girls:

Alyssa Laspada - Junior - Franklin HS

Michele Paillard - Junior - Franklin HS

Kassandra Jimenez - Junior - Montwood HS

Lauren Walls-Portillo - Senior - Eastwood HS

Other notable schools participating:

Bel Air HS, Montwood HS, Franklin HS

The course is filled with deceptively difficult rolling hills, a path through a tunnel and a nice little view of a lake inside the venue. It's also very spectator friendly. So if you plan on running or going to check out the competition you're in for a treat as the course was designed specifically to allow fans to see a majority of the race without having to move around the course. With the new high school Cross Country season in the horizon, this will serve as a great appetizer as to what's to come out here in West Texas! The race will take place a week from today July 31, at 7:30 am. If you're interested in signing up for the race you can check out all the information on the meet here.
