Springlake Earth Qualifies Three To State in Multiple Events

Springlake Earth is one of many 1A schools filled with athletes who know nothing more than the value of hard work. Their three state meet qualifiers may not seem like much of a representation at first, but consider the fact that these three athletes will hit the track for eight events between them.

Everyone knows the exploits of Taytum Goodman. The sophomore is only in her fourth semester of high school and already has four state championships and a third place finish.

Last year, Taytum won the 800m and 1,600m championships as well as taking the bronze in the 400m. This past fall as well as last year, she won her two cross country state titles and this weekend, she'll be competing in all three track events once again this weekend.

Taytum isn't the only Goodman who excels at running. Older brother Trace Goodman was a state meet qualifier last year and is making the trip back this season. In 2021, he finished third in the 400m at the state meet just moments after his younger sister did.

This weekend, Trace will be even busier; he qualified for the 400m again this year, but he also added the 800m to his repertoire. He has very good chances at bringing home two medals this year.

That just covers five events between the Goodmans.

Their like-a-brother Springlake Earth teammate Braxton Ethridge will be as much of a busy-body as the Goodmans will be.

Ethridge qualified for the state meet in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles for the second consecutive season. This year, he'll also compete in the 100m. He's signed up for the challenge of running back-to-back events with the 110 meter hurdles preceding the 100m. Afterwards, he'll have one heck of an experience and story to tell when this weekend is over.
