Junior Abi Bass from Melissa was looking to add more hardware to her trophy case after she won the Gold in the 3200m this morning. She took the lead from the start with a line of girls trailing behind her and not willing to relinquish the race to Bass just yet.
Bass led the race with Hannah Stuart a Junior from Canyon on her shoulder through the first lap and Alexis Frick a Junior from Celina was a close third.
Bass and Stuart continued to battle it out through three laps reminiscent of the 3200 earlier in the day.
Coming into the bell lap, Bass and Stuart pulled away from the rest of the field showing their dominance in the distance races.
With 200m left, Bass extended her lead over Stuart and cruised home with the win.Frick finished a respectable third behind these two powerhouses.
Bass finished with a time of 4:57.22, while Stuart came in second with a time of 4:59.47, Frick captured the bronze with a time of 5:06.09.
