Chris Moreno (San Elizario) came in with last year's runner-up finish making him one of the favorites as did his regional leading entry 1:56.31. However carrying that weight and pressure was amped up after running the 3,200m earlier this morning there was more weight on his legs.
Moreno took control of the race going through the first 200m and 300m of the race. Moreno decided the pace was going to suit him instead of being under the control of the other runners. He continued to lead through the first lap at 58 seconds.
The pace stayed consistent and not really faster nor did it change leaders as Moreno split 1:30 at 600m. He would kick it home to secure the win in 1:58.82 with Cashis Lee-Brown (Athens) in second at 1:59.10, and Christian Rohlack (Taylor) in third at 1:59.16.
