James Boutte Clears Air On SPC State Meet And Coming Track

James Boutte competes at the 2021 SPC Cross Country State Championships

A rising junior, James Boutte of Houston Christian experienced a fabulous sophomore campaign that saw his coach applaud him almost weekly on social media, and for good reason. His mid-distance times continually dropped, which means he secured his grip on a few school records, his confidence skyrocketed, and he elevated himself to a serious SPC contender in several events, including relays.

While XC season didn't end the way he had hoped (DQ for a missing bib), he'll compete in USATF Nationals with hopes of finishing sub-16:00.00.

The SPC's returning leader in both the 800 and 1600, James and his coach plan to increase their attention to speed this track season, so there's a great chance you'll see him compete in more 400s while also running some 3200s, thus showing his range.

James own PRs of 52.13 in the 400 and 1:53.71 in the 800; expect those to be shattered often as he continues to make a name for himself.
