Meet Previews For Each Region 1 Championships

1-1A

Girls

One thing is for sure, Taytum Goodman is going to take up qualifying positions. She has qualified for the state meet in each of her first two track and field seasons in three events a piece. The 400m, 800m, and 1600m have been her point of emphasis on the track and she has been close to collecting three golds but hasn't quite cashed in yet. She is a determined athlete, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see her achieve that goal. The Springlake Earth star is also still competing in golf, but that shouldn't detract from her shooting for her track and field goals.

In the 1A girls sprints, Anna Hudson is as marquee as Goodman. The Miami, Texas senior is the reigning back-to-back the 100m and 200m 1A state champion and she collected a third place in 2021 in the long jump. Don't think she is going to let her crowns go without a fight.

Boys

Brandon Passman has graduated and is at the University of Alabama, so that opens things for a new regional champion. Adrian Rosales stepped up as a freshman last year when he finished fifth in the 1600m and was runner-up in the 3200m at the state meet. Now a sophomore, he could be looking to take steps up the awards podium.

Braxton Ethridge missed taking home two golds from last year's state meet hurdle events. He was runner-up by 0.06 in the 110 meter hurdles and won the state title in the 300 meter hurdles. Expect him to be a force once again at the regional championships.
