Celeste Robinson Won the 100m and Lauren Lewis Won 200/400

Girls 100m

Jordyn Price (Conroe Grand Oaks) at 11.27 and Nita Koom-Dadzie (Humble Kingwood) with a 11.29 came in with the top seed times. Dadzie finished runner-up last year at the state meet, so many were eyeing her.

Price got a great start and had an awesome drive phase, when Hannah Lowe (Garland Sachse) was transitioning well in the middle of the track. But, on the outside of the track making a strong push it was Celeste Robinson (Cypress Ranch) coming out of her transition phase strong and holding excellent form.

Robinson would get to the line first with a time of 11.64 into a headwind (-0.8) for the win with Price second (11.71) and Lowe third (11.72).

Girls 400m

Lauren Lewis (Prosper) was the defending UIL 6A champion coming in, but in 2023, she has been so much more than just that. This season, she morphed into the best 400m runner Texas has ever seen. Earlier this season, she broke the Texas state record when she ran 51.83. All that was left for her to do was take down the UIL State Meet record.

Also in the field were sub 55 second seeds Faith Franklin (Harlingen) at 54.26 and Ivana Odonkor (McKinney) at 54.90.

Lewis had the stagger on both runner to her outside before hitting the straight and she came through the 200 at 24 low. Coming through 300m under 39 seconds, she would have to fend off the classic 400m fatigue and lactic acid that comes with the territory.

Over the last 100m, Lewis put a close to a race she may never forget. It definitely will be mentioned for some time to come as she broke the UIL State Meet record with her 51.45, a new personal record, and a new TX No. 1 all-time performance.

Girls 200m

In the 6A girls 200m, Lauren Lewis was again the favorite, but we'd have to see how the meet rolling start would affect her with less recovery time than she'd typically have.

At the sound of the gun, she took off fast with Royaltee Brown (Dallas Skyline) who also got a good start and was a close second coming off the turn. They stayed close until Lewis' strength helped her pull away with Brown holding onto second place until the final five meters.

That's when Nasya Williams (DeSoto) and Skylar Brazzell (Northwest Nelson) finished with haste over the final five meters. Williams was second in 23.94 and Brazzell third in 24.00.
