6A Boys 110m Hurdles

Three of the top four 110m hurdlers in the nation faced off in the 6A Boys 110m Hurdle final and it lived up to the billing. National leader Alex Chukwukelu of North Forney and Donovan Bradley of Humble Summer Creek were even through the first three hurdles, but Chukwukelu gradually pulled away for the gold medal.

Chukwukelu posted a time of 13.42 into a 0.9 m/s headwind that was less than a tenth of a second off the State meet record. Bradley clocked a time of 13.66 for the silver medal while Jayden Keys of Katy Tompkins nabbed his second bronze medal of the day with a time of 13.82.

Bradley owns the second fastest time in the nation this year while Keys has the fourth fastest time. Keys had earlier medaled in the triple jump. For Bradley, it was his second straight silver medal in the event.

6A Boys 300m Hurdles

Langham Creek's Alex Ornelas got some much-needed redemption in the 6A Boys 300m Hurdles. Last year, he was leading the race until he clipped the last hurdle and went to the ground. This year, he had no such issues while running a smooth race that ultimately ended with him winning in a time of 36.30 to take the long-awaited gold medal.

Donovan Bradley of Humble Summer Creek entered the meet with the top season best time, but he clipped the first hurdle which seemed to throw him off just enough to allow Ornelas to maintain his lead. Bradley took the silver medal in 36.46.

Jayden Keys (Katy Tompkins) continued to put together an outstanding meet by winning his third bronze medal of the day. He also earned medals in the triple jump and 110m hurdles.
