Klein Forest Wins 4x100 And 4x400, Duncanville Takes 4x200

6A Boys 4x100m Relay

The 6A Boys 4x100m relay came down to who had the best anchor leg and that was answered when Klein Forest's Jelani Watkins ran down Duncanville in the final 15 meters.

Duncanville were first to all three exchanges but were unable to repeat as State Champions from their Lane 8 position. Klein Forest had a prime spot in Lane 4 and were able to stay close enough to allow Watkins to work his magic down the home stretch.

The race included four returning teams from a year ago in Allen, Duncanville, Klein Forest and San Antonio Reagan. Duncanville and Klein Forest switched spots from 2022 while Allen took fourth place for a second straight season.

6A Boys 4x200m Relay

The Duncanville 4x200m relay team of Elijah Beal, Jalen Washington, Caden Durham and DaKoriean Moore made it back-to-back 6A Boys 4x200m Relay State titles after winning a close, exciting race in 1:23.95.

Duncanville was dueling with The Woodlands and Ridge Point through the first two exchanges and then Cedar Hill moved into the picture at the final exchange. Cedar Hill held the lead coming off the final curve, but Moore was able to give Duncanville the victory.

Ridge Point looked to be out of the race after losing ground in the third leg, but Cayden Broadnax scorched the ground and went from fifth to second at the tape. Ridge Point took the silver in a time of 1:24.01 and The Woodlands grabbed third place.

6A Boys 4x400m Relay

As always, the 4x400m relay was an exciting end to the 6A Boys State Track meet. Klein Forest ended up victorious in the race with a fast time of 3:11.69 after entering the meet as the third seed.

A key moment in the race came at the first exchange where Lawson Jacobs handed off smoothly to A'lsayha Brown who sprinted the first curve to take the overall lead at the break-in point. Brown held the lead through the rest of the second lap and his teammates Terrence Morris and Jelani Watkins brought home the title.

Allen entered the race as one of the favorites and they held a trump card in anchor leg Jonathan Simms, the State champion in the 400m. Allen had a few issues in the clogged exchange zones and by the time the baton got to Simms they were in sixth place. Simms unleashed a great anchor leg running a 45.61 split, but he could not run down Watkins, the two-time 200m State champion.

Allen finished second in 3:12.58 while The Woodlands finished in third with a time of 3:12.74.
