6A Boys 800m
Edinburg North's Keyshawn Garcia played the perfect waiting
game in the 6A Boys 800m. Garcia let top-seeded Zeke Moreno of Conroe Oak Ridge
take the race out at a good pace. Moreno led through the 400m at 54.94, but he
was quickly swallowed up by Evan MacGregor (Austin Bowie) and Jack Musgrave
(Houston Clear Lake) on the backstretch.
Garcia was in fifth place at the 400 mark and remained in
the middle of the pack until the final curve. He made his move by going as wide
as Lane 3 around the bend, but he was able to sling shot past the top group
coming off the curve and no one was going to catch him.
Garcia crossed the tape in 1:51.53 and ran the fastest final
400m in the group with his blazing 55.66 to close it out. MacGregor took the silver medal in 1:52.15 and Musgrave earned the bronze in 1:52.28.

6A Boys 1600m
Reese Vannerson of Houston Strake Jesuit went wire-to-wire
in winning the 6A Boys 1600m in a time of 4:08.08. He went out in 61 seconds,
came through the 800m at 2:05 and was at 3:08 after three laps.
Vannerson had a pair of challengers throughout the race in
Luis Pastor of El Paso Coronado and Kevin Sanchez of Austin Vandegrift. Sanchez
hung tight through the first three laps but could not match Vannerson's final
lap push while Pastor had to work his way into contention by the final lap but
he could only match Vannerson in the final 400 meters.
Vannerson finished the meet as a double winner in the 1600m and 3200m while Pastor and Sanchez gobbled up the other four medals with each getting one silver and one bronze.
