She Did It! Lauren Lewis Breaks UIL State Meet 400m Record

Girls 400m

Lauren Lewis (Prosper) was the defending UIL 6A champion coming in, but in 2023, she has been so much more than just that. This season, she morphed into the best 400m runner Texas has ever seen. Earlier this season, she broke the Texas state record when she ran 51.83. All that was left for her to do was take down the UIL State Meet record.

Also in the field were sub 55 second seeds Faith Franklin (Harlingen) at 54.26 and Ivana Odonkor (McKinney) at 54.90.

Lewis had the stagger on both runners to her outside made up before hitting the straight and she came through the 200 at 24 low. Coming through 300m sub 39 seconds, she would have to fend off the classic 400m fatigue and lactic acid that comes with the territory.

Over the last 100m, Lewis put a close to a race she may never forget. It definitely will be mentioned for some time to come as she broke the UIL State Meet record with her 51.45, a new personal record, and a new TX No. 1 all-time performance.
