McAllen's Dana Rojas Vasquez Drops Three Minutes To 17:56 PR

Dana Rojas Vasquez (DRV) put the state on notice earlier this year when she dropped nearly three minutes from her 2022 season opener to this year's season opener.

The McAllen junior ran 20:52 last fall to get the year started. She definitely progressed though out the season and during track, she managed to qualify for the UIL 5A Track and Field State Championships in the 3200m while adding 2:20 and 5:11 PRs in the 800m and 1600m.

That, perhaps was the sign pointing to the current cross country season and her drop to a 17:56 season opener at the Harlingen CISD XC Invitational.

Unfortunately, DRV would begin to feel nagging issues with her IT Band that would limit her running from then until now. That wasn't able to keep her from following up with a 18:07 and then a 18:50 this past weekend in the Girls Gold race at the Hoka/McNeil Invitational.

This kind of running led DRV to win last week's Girls Performer of the Week poll. Watch the video as we discuss the last couple of week and the training and development for the rising McAllen star.
