TAPPS 2023 State Meet Recap

TAPPS 3A

Girls

Last year's champion Avery Junk graduated and runner-up Faith Murphy is now running in the UIL. So, that means the door was open for a new individual state champion.

It was Weatherford Christian Academy senior Landry Perkin going from sixth to first to capture this year's title. Hannah Van Eerden (Plano Coram Deo Academy) was runner-up after a fourth place finish last season.

Anne Snider (Live Oak Classical), Kate Boone (Holy Trinity Catholic), and Clara Holmes (Live Oak Classical) rounded out the top five.

Boys

The TAPPS 3A boys race was one of development and improvements.

Last year, Anthony Abeyta (Fort Worth Temple Christian) was eighth, Jayden Ogden (Live Oak Classical) was 15th, and Nate Cupp (Weatherford Christian Academy) was 16th at the state championships.

This season, Abeyta moved up to take the title, Ogden was runner-up, and Cupp moved up for third place.

Hudson Cunningham (San Jacinto Christian Academy) was fourth and Alex Thompson (Live Oak Classical) was the fifth place finisher.

Improvement was still the name of the game in the boys team race.

Live Oak Classical finished eight as a team at last year's TAPPS 3A state championships. They ran a 21:55 team average and scored a total of 214 points.

This season, they ran with a completely different mind frame. They won the team state championship by only scoring 51 points, two ahead of Tyler TK Gorman. Their run on yesterday was over three minutes faster than last season's team average.

TK Gorman was runner-up last year and added another and just missing the win by two points. Houston Northland Christian was third.
