TAPPS 2023 State Meet Recap

TAPPS 4A

Girls

With a new year comes changes. Well, not for the TAPPS 4A girls race. Seven of last year's top-10 were right back this year and mostly in the same order.

Emily Smith (Colleyville Covenant Christian) won her fourth individual state championship when she ran 11:56 for the win. The feat is rare and it is definitely telling of the talent one has and the hard work they put in to win over and over again.

Harper Counts (Austin Brentwood Academy) was last year's runner-up as a freshman and again duplicated the placement.

Following Smith and Counts, Gracee Whiteaker (Trinity Christian Willow Park), Charlotte Freeman (The Woodlands Legacy Prep), Maeve Sullivan (Schertz St. John Paul II Catholic), Addison Durand (Arlington Grace Prep Academy), and Grace Detterick (Geneva School of Boerne) came back to run top-10 finishes again.

The Woodlands Legacy Prep Christian Academy moved up the team podium from third at last year's race to get the win this year. They scored 77 points to win over last year's champion Austin Brentwood and their 86 point total.

Dallas Covenant was third overall with 119 points.
