When Texas A&M head track coach Pat Henry talks track and field, you listen. It's safe to say that he was impressed with the way the boys ran in the 4x200 meter relay at Friday's Bluebonnet HS Inv.

    Who wasn't impressed?

On the first of March, one track meet saw four boys teams run 1:24s in the sprint relay. "In my 51 years of coaching, I've never seen this many boys 4x200 relays run 1:24 like this," Henry said.

Duncanville set the meet record back in 2022 with an impressive run of 1:25.45. However, today, that performance was made to look almost pedestrian.

In the fourth heat today, Humble Atascocita ran a state leading 1:24.51 to capture the meet record. They toppled their season best run with an exhibition that didn't even look like they were putting a lot of effort into it.

However, it was the fifth heat, where even though a 1:24.51 was just previously run, minds were blown when Duncanville ran 1:24.66 to win the heat and place second overall along with what also ensued.

Following closely behind D'ville was Katy Tompkins in third place. They also blazed to a sub 1:25 race by going 1:24.75. The Woodlands anchor leg closed extremely strong to finish in 1:24.96 and Fort Bend Ridge Point just missed adding to the barrage of 1:24s with a time of 1:25.19.

The UIL 6A state meet will be a great event and we might have been tipped off to five teams who could be there running in the 4x200 relay.

Duncanville and The Woodlands could square off in Region 2-6A with a shot to advance to state. In Region 3-6A, it will be Atascocita, Tompkins, and Ridge Point possibly seeing each other race it out for the two state meet berths.
