Lindale Wins Exciting UIL 4A Boys 4x400 Relay

2025 UIL 4A boys 4x400 relay

The UIL 4A Boys 4x400-Meter Relay lived up to its billing as a spectacular finale, delivering drama, lead changes, and a frantic anchor-leg finish that had the crowd on its feet. With several elite squads-Lindale, Dallas Carter, Dallas Kimball, and a surging Wimberley-stacked in the field, the race was always going to be tight. And tight it was, with just over a second separating the top four teams at the finish.

The opening leg saw Dallas Kimball and Dallas Carter make an early statement, both exchanging nearly simultaneously at the first zone. Carter, running from lane two, surged to the front on the inside and momentarily took control. But Kimball responded quickly, reclaiming the lead before the next handoff with a strong push heading into the third leg.

That's when Lindale began to assert itself. A powerful third leg brought them right back into the mix, and as Colter Maya took the baton for the anchor, he immediately attacked the curve and surged into the lead. Dallas Carter clawed their way back into contention by the homestretch, turning the final 150 meters into a three-team shootout.

Just as the crowd thought it was settled, Wimberley's Nolan Waida came flying down the outside in a heroic anchor leg. From well back in fourth, Waida closed the gap on both Kimball and Carter, and nearly reeled in Lindale, who had begun to ease slightly toward the line. But Maya had done just enough, crossing in 3:16.35 to secure the title for Lindale. Wimberley's late surge earned them silver in 3:16.62, while Carter held on for bronze in 3:17.51, just edging Kimball's 3:17.69.

Further back, Waco Connally (3:18.68) and Canyon (3:19.73) also dipped under 3:20, contributing to one of the deepest 4A relay fields in recent memory. In the end, the race had everything: speed, strategy, redemption-and an unforgettable final leg that cemented Lindale's victory in a race where every meter mattered.
