Region 2-6A | Region 1-6A/Region 2-5A | Region 4-6A/5A
1) Boys 4x400m: Kingwood comes into the meet as the top seed ranked US #3 at 3:12.86. Even though they are one of the best in the country, they are not going to advance to State easily. 5 other teams have run 3:17 or faster. This will be the 3rd week in a row racing Summer Creek & The Woodlands. Both those teams closing the gap to Kingwood each time, could we see a big upset?
2) Girls Pole Vault: Three of the country's Top-15 girls will go head to head after all clearing 13' last week at the Area meet. Led by Meagan Gray who's SB 13'9" has her at US #3.
3) Boys 400m: 5 of the Top-21 in the entire country will face off! Nearly 25% of the best 400m runners in the US and only 2 have guaranteed spots at State! How insane is that!?
4) Girls 100m: This showdown in the finals wont be one to miss! Two of the best in the Nation Taylor Bennett & Kaylor Harris will toe the line in a preview for State finals. The last time they races head to head was at Texas Relays where Bennett won out with a US #6 11.47, but since then Harris has run a 11.18(Hand).
5) Boys 1600m: We are talking about a district where a 4:16 1600m wasn't good enough to move on...the 4 guys who advanced from that District- Connor Meaux,Dan Golden,Colton Nettleton, and Charles Mills all with 4:15s this season. Now throw in the Viegra brothers. Jose 2nd at Texas Relays in 4:15, & Daniel with a SB 4:17. A reminder ONLY 2 ADVANCE to State!! As long is it doesn't get too tactical, this field is most likely to send a 3rd runner to State.
6) Myles Marshall: It goes without saying that any open 800m Myles enters in has to be on your radar. He wont have to run anything crazy or a sub-1:50 to advance to state, but last week he ran a 1:51 for the first time in 2015 and as he is feeling good you never know what can happen. With his heavy workload (400prelims/Finals-4x4prelims/finals) and it those events being much more difficult in the 800m, expect him to put much more effort in the shorter events and try to conserve energy in the half mile.
7) 4x200m: On both the boys & girls side this relay may be the one most up in the air. Atascocita boys ran a big season best last week to enter as the top seeds, but with a lot of teams in the 1:26 range anything could happen.
8) Devin Duvernay & Marcus McWilliams: The junior from Garland Sache has PRed two weeks in a row in the 100m, running under 10.50 both times. He has tough competition to contend with at this Region Meet, but if he keeps that streak going we could watch him run one of the fastest times in the nation. McWilliams broke out onto the National scene with a huge win at Texas Relays. He's still ranked at US #3 in that event, watch for him to bust out some fast times in the high hurdles & 300H.
9) Kaylee Hinton: She will enter the meet as one of the favorites for the 100H & the long jump as she continues to improve her marks all season. In the high jump we should see a show with both her and Ellyana Long having the ability to push the bar up over 5'7".
10) Spring Westfield 4x100m: These guys are only 1 of 9 teams in the entire country to run under 41s in the 4x100m. They briefly sat at US #1, but have since been pushed back to US #4 with their 40.81. With all the loaded 4x1s at other meets, you could see Westfield reclaim their spot at the top of the national rankings.
