Maddy Monday: Tempo Day, Science Class, NXN South, and More!

Week #11 Payton Takes Over, Describes State Title Emotions & More!

Hi everyone, this is Payton taking over this weeks edition of Maddy Monday's! I hope you enjoy :-) #grind

Monday: Practice was at 6:45am this morning and I was so confused when I walked outside to see fog overtaking everything. That made driving to practice an adventure but I made it on time. Our workout started with a mile warm up and dynamic drills. It then consisted of 8x400m slow intervals with a 100m jog in between each one. We started at a 1:15 for the first one. The middle few were from 1:22-1:25, and the last two were 1:18 and then 1:13. We had a total of 9 girls that ran together on these. After that, we had an all out finisher 200m sprint and then a mile cool down. I would say it was the spookiest workout we've had, even though Halloween is over :-(

Tuesday: This morning we got to sleep a little more and had practice at 7:30am. We had a 4 mile recovery run and kept ourselves busy during the run by singing Drake's new song, Mariah Carey's Christmas playlist, and high school musical. I also witnessed Maddy whip a few times during the run (I'll try to get a picture for this week). After the run, we had 6x150m strides and then we stretched.

Wednesday: Practice started at 6:45 for us this morning, so when I got there, I had my daily 5 minute nap before starting our 2 lap warm up. We did dynamic drills and then speed drills. Our run was a 5 mile fartlek of 1 minute on (6:20 pace), and 2 minutes off (7:20 pace). We had 10 girls all together on this. When we got back to the track, we did 2x200m finishers and then stretched. I then spent the rest of the day studying and getting prepared for state this Saturday by ice bathing with friends :-)

Thursday: This morning started at 7:30 and I got there at 7:31 because I woke up at 7:18. I'd say it

was a record time!! The workout this morning was a mile warm up and then 8x200m slow intervals with a 200m jog. We ran them from 35 seconds to 38 seconds. We did a 2 lap cool down and then stretched. Then we had another ice bath!!! I also got a picture of Maddy whipping!!!

Friday: We left this morning at 7:30 to be state bound!!!! We spent the drive sleeping and singing early 2000s pop music. When we got to the course, we were surprised to see how muddy it already was. We started with 2 mile warm up on the course of the first mile and last mile. We did drills, and then had a 400m out from the start and the 2x200m to the finish. We finished with cooling down on the last 1000m and then stretching. The rest of the night was pretty relaxed since we spent it watching Say Yes to the Dress ;-)

Saturday: HAPPY STATE MEET DAY!!!! We woke up at 8 to do a light 10 minute jog and drills. We went to eat breakfast and of course I had a Texas shaped waffle because #texas. We got to the meet around 10:30am and our shoes were already soaking wet and muddy within 10 minutes..We started our warm up later and did dynamic drills. We put on our spikes and taped them on tight and sprayed Pam on the bottom so the mud wouldn't stick ;-) The race was the muddiest race I've ever run, but it was a lot of fun. We ended up winning by 9 points and couldn't stop crying when we found out. After the race, shout out to Coach T for being nice enough to let us shower at a truck stop so we wouldn't go home so muddy :-)) Now we are on our way to Dairy Queen for a celebration ice cream!

Sunday: This morning, I got to sleep in and I decided to grab donuts with friends. We spent the day shopping and then resting from yesterday's race!
