Maddy Mondays Week #5

Monday 9/14 - Extra hyped for our long EPR run this morning because the Cowboys came home with the win last night. We started with a 2 lap warm up and dynamic drills. We ran 10 miles starting at 7:00 pace and ending at 6:20 with our seven varsity girls. When we got back to the track we had 4 x 150 meter strides across the football field, drills, and stretches. We had PM practice at 3:45, and it was just going to be a run, but the weight room was open so we did weights first and then went on a 3 mile run to top of our miles for today. After practice a few of us went to a local coffeehouse to work on homework (but lets be real, we never get anything done).

Total miles: 14

Tuesday 9/15 - This morning we had a recovery run, but my coach turned it into a girls run. A girls run is a recovery run but with the entire girls team, so we went a pace to keep everyone on. Its basically a break from running hard every day and getting one day to jog and relax. After we got back to the track we ran 2 more laps to make it to 6 miles then ran 4 x 150 meter strides and stretched. After school me and 2 other captains went to a t-shirt making company to plan out our team shirts for the year. Then went to the coffeehouse again to work on more homework (I think in an hour and a half I maybe finished 4 math problems…but it's a fun place).

Total miles: 6.5

Wednesday 9/16 - Today was considered a "game day" but fartlek style. Coach T made little pieces of paper with numbers on them and you follow the instructions on the paper from 1 to 23. Some of the cards would say run hard for 1 minute, do 15 push ups, then run easy for 2 minutes while singing row row row your boat. Our fartlek was 7 miles long, then when we got back to the track we ran 2 x 1000 meters and a 600 negative split. We finished the workout with 2 laps for cool down and stretches. At PM practice all we did was weights because no one had time to run since we had to go to our homecoming pep rally to represent cross country in our new uniform cover ups that we got today!

Total miles: 9 (picture below at pep rally)

Thursday 9/17 - This morning was the first day Milesplit came to start filming for the Driven Series. We had an easy seven mile recovery run with a group of 6 girls at 7:20 pace. The Milesplit guys followed us for the run while filming, and I'm sure that it looked pretty sketchy to bystanders. When we got back to the track we ran 4 x 150 meter strides across the football field, dynamic drills, and stretching. When we were walking to study hall me and Quinny found a ball pit in our commons called the "friendship pool" so of course we had to take pictures in it. In the picture we are laughing because the ball I'm holding says "find something you guys have in common." and we both said running at the same time, which really isn't all that funny, so i don't know why were laughing…

Total miles: 7.5

Friday 9/18 - Friday was my off day because I left at 5:45 in the morning for an official visit at A&M. The first day of the visit was a lot of touring the facilities and meeting with academic advisors. That night we went and played sand volleyball with the team which was a lot of fun, and then went back to the hotel to sleep because we had to be up early the next morning.

Total miles: 0

Saturday 9/19 - This morning Ashton and I woke up at 6am to get our run done before we went to the football game later today. We drove out to the A&M cross country course for steady state sessions. We warmed up with 1 mile, drills, and stretches, then we ran 3 x 2 mile steady state repeats at 6:15 pace, and cooled down about a half mile. Today we went to the A&M football game and then had a taco buffet at some of the girl's house. It was a rad day!

Total miles: 6.5

Sunday 9/20 - Today we woke up and ate breakfast with the coaches before we had to hit the road because our 48 hours were just about up. When I got home I decided to cross train, so I drove to the gym and biked for 45min. and used the rest of the day to rest from the busy weekend. Shoutout to Karis for being an awesome host :)
