Marcus Girls &Katy Guys Win The Battle For McNeil

Boys Race

  • The boys race saw several of the top individuals in the state battle it out for first place. The race went out quick, lead by New Braunfels Canyon junior Sam Worley. Having experience racing the course before Worley knew to get out quick and and he kept the lead for the whole race pulling off the win running 14:45. It was close at the end when Pflugerville Hendrickson junior Daniel Viegra almost kicked down Worley running only four seconds slower, coming across the line in 14:49. Finishing in third was Alvarado's Justin Domangue who ran 15:09. In the team race the guys from Katy pulled off the win scoring 140 points. They were lead by Ryan Yerrow who finished 12th running 15:27. The guys from Grapevine finished in 2nd scoring 159 points.


Girls Race

  • The girls race had a highly anticipated showdown between many of the state's top teams. Along with the the top teams there were many top individuals as well, two of which were Abilene junior Ashton Endsley, and Alamo Heights junior Abby Gray. The pair along with Marcus senior Madeleine Reed, and Kingwood senior Abby Guidry lead most of the race. It wasn't until a little under a mile to go that Endsley and Gray began to pull away from the rest of the pack. Coming up the last hill to the finish it was a two girl race between Endsley and Gray for first. It came all the way down to the wire but in the end it was Endsley who pulled out the win running 17:00. Gray was right on her heels finishing in 17:01. The team battle was a close one as well between the girls from Marcus and Kingwood. In the end it was Marcus who came out on top lead by senior Madeleine Reed. Reed ran a 17:16 to finish 3rd overall. Fourth leading her team to 2nd was Kingwood senior Abby Guidry who ran 17:22. Marcus scored only 73 points for the win running a 17:57 average and 1:09 1-5 split. Kingwood scored 107 points. Rounding out the top five teams was Smithson Valley (117), Lewisville Hebron (162), and Katy (248).
