With a split of 1:05 halfway through, Abree Winfrey of Canyon was determined to close things out in the back stretch.

Since the gun went off, she wasted no time jumping to the front of the pack. After leading the duration of the event, the junior crossed the finish line with a time of 2:14.42 to become a back-to-back state champion in the event.

Sophomore Taylor Grona of Fredericksburg claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:16.41. She was able to edge out the third place finisher by just over a second. Freshman Trista Etheridge of Mabank showed her poise, taking the third and final spot with a time of 2:17.89.
