2022 Preseason DFW Metro XC Girls To Watch

Preseason Third Team

Sara Cavey (369)
- - -

21.) Sara Cavey - Dallas Highland Park

Cavey has been a solid piece of the Highland Park puzzle that has been a strong team since she has been in coach Susan Bailey's program. Cavey has been a 18 minute 5K girls for the last two years and last year she became an even more competitive runner with her placements taking precedence over times and PRs. That helped the team to a fifth place team finish at state when she was the 19th overall runner in Round Rock.

On the track, she popped a 5:27.24 in the 1,600m for a PR and she went 11:4 for a 3,200m PR. Cavey was a regional finalist in both distance events and just missed making it to the state meet.

Natalie Ng

20.) Natalie Ng - Southlake Carroll

Ng has progressed with every season, last year, she made the Carroll varsity team and was a big time contributor. She ran a season best time of 18:29 at the District 4-6A meet and went on to run strong at state and at RunningLane.

On the track, she PRed in the 1,600m in 5:11.46 and added a 5:15 at district. She added a 5:18 at the Southlake 1-mile just last week to prove that her fitness is in a good place to start the season. The Carroll Dragon also ran mid 11 minutes last year in the 3,200m as well as 18:30 in the 5,000m at the Texas Distance Festival.

Kiley Himes (2625)

- - -

19.) Kylie Himes - Grapevine

Grapevine senior Himes is coming off another set of solid cross and track seasons. She improved in her personal state meet finish from her sophomore season when she was 35th to 16th place last year. Himes was one of Grapevine's hard rocks that turned in one big race after another, including a 41st place finish at the Team Regional championships in The Woodlands.

Himes has a knack for middle distance running and her mid to low 2:20s in the 800m weren't PRs, but they were key to her improved speed. She did get a 5:11 PR in the 1,600m at TDF and she won the area meet and was third at the Region 1-5A meet.

A top four finish at the Region 1-5A cross country championships not only makes Himes one of the top runners in the DFW, but also in the region.

Charlotte Hudson

- - -

18.) Charlotte Hudson - Dallas Highland Park

Hudson is another important piece of the Lady Scotts program. She ran a SB time of 18:17.30 at the Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational and a 18:52 true 5K at the Plano ISD XC Invitational in a true 5K. After that great start, she was consistent throughout the year and a top finisher in every meet. She finished fifth at the Region 2-5A meet and 32nd at state to solidify herself as a front runner at the state's biggest stages.

She focused on the 800m and 1,600m early in the season and had a 11:37 3,200m in early March.

Sylvia Schedler

- - -

17.) Sylvia Schwedler - Southlake Carroll

As a sophomore, Schwedler became a varsity team member and this year, she'll be even more important as Carroll looks to get back on the podium.

Last year, she was consistently under 19 minutes in the 5K and ran her best at the end of the season and in championship races. She finished third at the 4-6A District meet, 13th at Region 1-6A, and 26th at the state meet. She ran a 18:33 at state and a 18:02.03 PR at RunningLane to exhibit her true abilities.

This could be a low ranking for Schwedler when you consider her track season. She was insane on the track with a 5:09.16 PR in the 1,600m, 11:12.34 in the 3,200m at Region 1-6A for seventh place, and 15:55.45 in the 5,000m at TDF. She ran a 5:04 1-mile PR at the Southlake 1-mile last week to show how ready she is for this season.

Emilee Jones

- - -

The junior-to-be has enjoyed a good high school career so far. The two-sport athlete splits time between running and soccer, but handles things well. She started last year out with a 18:08.10 at her home meet last year and ran 18:30 in a true 5K at McNeil and 18:21 at Ken Gaston.

In the championship season, she went 18:40, 19:02 and 18:52 successively and finished 43rd at state, which were both improvements from freshman year.

On the track, she continued to run well and balance soccer. Jones ran a 2:21 SB, 5:17 PR, and 11:44 while making it to regionals in the 1,600m.

Ava Bushaw

- - -

15.) Ava Bushaw - Southlake Carroll

Bushaw is a senior and this is now her team. She is coming off a junior year where she was an improved runner all season long. A runner-up finish at district and a 10th place finish at Region 1-6A makes Bushaw a stud, a serious individual contender, and a leader to help push Carroll back towards the top. She also PRed in the 5K at RunningLane with a 17:59.41 to make it clear how good she can still get.

That optimism and growth was further demonstrated with her 2:18 800m PR as well with her 5:12 and 11:12 SB races in the 1,600 and 3,200m. She also ran 18:08 at the TDF 5,000m.
