Preseason Rankings: Houston Metro Girls

Houston Metro Third Team

21. Hailey Castillo (Jr) LC Clear Falls

Last year, Castillo opened her 5K season at the Seven Lakes Spartan Invitational with a time of 19:45.30. She later set a huge personal best time at the one and only Nike South Invitational where she ran 18:32.50

During the track season, she ran the 800m with a time of 2:32.68, 5:25.57 in the 1600m, and 11:40.46 in the 3200m run at the Charger relays

20. Madison Morgan (Jr) Houston Episcopal

Morgan had a great cross country, indoor, and outdoor track season. She opened up the year at the 2022 Grizzly XC Invitational with a time of 19:44. Later on in the season she came just short of her personal best time of 18:26, but still ran a fantastic season best with a time of 18:48.20 ran at the 2022 Nike South Invitational.

The indoor and outdoor season was like something out of a movie for one of the top race walkers in the country becoming a national champion at the 2023 New Balance Indoor National Championships in the 1500m Race Walk with a time of 6:47.48. During the summer, she finished third place at the USATF U20 Championships in the 10,000m race walk with a time of 50:26.64.

19. Rebecca Wylie (Sr) Klein Cain

Last year, Wylie just shot out of a cannon at the 2022 Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational with a time of 18:05.30 placing second place in an elite field in the early season. Now that Wylie is a senior let's see if she can improve on her freshman year time which just so happens to be her lifetime best ran at the 2020 Run The Dog Pound Invitational with a time of 17:55 on the dot.

Collin's junior year was for sure one to remember. The 2022 cross country season was a thriller from setting personal best times to running at the UIL State meet with her lady spartans as a team. One highlight was running 18:42.30 at the 2022 Nike South Invitational in a super stacked race.

During the 2023 outdoor track season, Collins finished with personal best in all three distance events running 2:13.15 in the 800m, 5:02.31 in the 1600m, and 11:28.57 at the 2023 Alief ISD Heintschel.

17. Kaitlyn Gale (Sr) LC Clear Falls

Gale opened her 2022 cross country season at the 2022 Seven Lakes Spartan Invitational running a time of 19:21.90 and would later set a huge personal best time. But wait there's more; in the process setting the new school record for Clear Falls ran at the Nike South Invitational going 18:15.40.

The 2023 outdoor season was another success running personal best in both the 1600m with a time of 5:16.38 and the 3200m going 11:22.90 both ran at the Deer Park Jim Kethan Relays

16. Maddy Hunter (Sr) Katy

Hunter opened her 2022 cross country season 5k at the Aldine ISD Larry Gnatzig Invitational running a season best time of 18:36.86 which is just shy of her personal best 5k time of 18:31.20 ran at the 2021 UIL State Cross Country Championships

When the outdoor track season came around, Hunter ran personal bests in both the 1600m running 5:07.85 and in the 3200m running 11:03.66.

15. Liliana Campos (Sr) Conroe Oak Ridge

If you don't know well now you know, Campos is a dual sport athlete balancing out both cross country and volleyball during the fall. Last year, Campos opened her season at the College Park Invite with a time of 19:13.56 just coming off the arm injury she had earlier last year. She ran a season best 18:37.20 ran at the Nike South Invitational just a little off of her lifetime best of 18:21.47.

During the outdoor season, Campos tried something that kind of worked in her favor when she attempted the steeplechase. She was able to combine the vertical jumping skills she obtained from volleyball with her running. She finished the season running personal best in both the 2000m steeplechase running 7:32.88 and in the 3200m going 11:08.01 at the Texas Distance Festival .
