Tank Tuesday: Spring Break Training

3/9/15-Monday

Workout: AM, 35min easy run. PM, 40min easy run

Mileage: 11 miles

Getting up at 6:30 am was not easy at all and it was pouring outside. It was one of those moments when I ask myself why I run. I ran with Monty slowly easing into the run and it actually turned out to be a really refreshing run most likely due to the fact that it was pouring outside, pitch black, and we almost got hit by a car like 10 times. My left foot arch was killing me though. We flew into Florida that afternoon and I did an easy shake out run by the ocean. There were some cool trails that I found so the run went by really quickly.

3/10/15-Tuesday

Workout: 30min easy run

Mileage: 4 miles

I was going to do my hard workout today, but I was at the beach all day and was dead tired by the time we got back to the hotel. Instead I ran with my brother, Jonathan, who is a baller. It was a Nooice run. Haha, a couple of weeks ago I made an app called “Nooice" during my off period. Although it's not on the App Store because you have to pay a $100 publisher fee, I can send you a downloadable link. I believe we have 38 people and counting on Nooice.

3/11/15-Wednesday

Workout: 14min w/u, 3x800 @5min intervals, 4x200 with 200 jog. 18min c/d

Mileage: 7 miles

I jogged over to a track from the hotel we were staying at in the afternoon and took on this workout solo. I started at 3200 race pace and cut down to 1600 race for the 800's switching into spikes for the last one. I then ran 800 race pace for the 200's. Overall it was a good workout, but the track was so terrible that my feet ached a bit on the c/d. Before the workout I was texting GJ Reyna and we were talking about trusting in our training and to mentally prepare ourselves for the upcoming big meets. Good stuff. I probably got a little bit too much sun yesterday at the beach, but ball is life.

3/12/15-Thursday

Workout: AM, 7 mile up tempo run. PM, 30min easy run

Mileage: 11 miles

My legs were a bit jelly on the tempo run. I ran on a cool track that stretched for about 4miles by the ocean, but it was a bunch of long stretches and humid so the run wasn't that pleasant overall. In the afternoon I played pick-up basketball for 2 hours so on the shakeout run I was feeling pretty drained… but ball is life. On a side note, it's tough training by yourself and I don't know how Ryan Hall does most of his training solo, but I'm his biggest fan this Sunday when he takes on LA. Also, shout out to Matt Williams running too.

3/13/15-Friday

Workout: Progression run on treadmill

Mileage: 7 miles

Let me just say that all of my experiences with treadmill runs have been terrible, but it was raining outside and basically a hurricane so to the mill I headed. However, it turned out to be a really nice run and a nice change to all the pavement pounding I had been doing the past few days. I was texting Mickey Davey, another Air Force committee, talking about the group of distance's runners that USAFA is bringing in this fall. I'm extremely excited for what lies ahead at the Academy, but have a few more HS goals I'm going to accomplish before then. Tank out

3/14/15-Saturday

Workout: Long run

Mileage: 12 miles

Ran with Francis, Timmy, Taylor, and Steve at 9am in the morning. It was a really solid run. It will always amaze me how fast runs go by if someone is talking so we always stretch stories to their limit when telling them. Good stuff. I'm blessed to have an awesome group of guys to run with and a great town of Boerne to run in.

3/15/15-Sunday

Workout: Off day

Mileage: 0 miles

Spent most of the day catching up on the results of the LA marathon, New Balance Nationals and the TX distance festival. Good stuff there man and hats off to Heymach and Blunt, they killed it. Whenever people run a fast time, it just gives me more motivation and confidence that I can run that time so I'm excited for this upcoming meet and TX Relays.

Week Mileage: 60 miles

Week in Review: Really good week of training just like I had hoped it would be. I was able to get a lot of sleep and heal up a few nagging injuries that had been building up. I'm just ready to run fast now.
