4/27/15-Monday
Workout: 45min easy run
Mileage: 6.5 miles
We call this run the Tour de Boerne. After a 10min w/u on the track, Coach had us do a run that goes around the great town of Boerne. One of my favorite routes and the weather was a bit hot, but great weather for tanning and enjoying creation. Feel pretty good, but still a bit tired from yesterday's tempo. Tomorrow we got the one and only Travis Miller (which is funny because I had a teammate two last year name Travis Miller) from Milesplit coming for a WOW.
4/28/15-Tuesday
Workout: AM, 42min easy run. PM, 20min w/u, 7x500 @1600 race pace, 10min c/d
Mileage: 11 miles.
It was a bit chilly and windy in the morning as we did a park run. I feel fine running, but the legs just don't have quite the pop in them. For the afternoon, we warmed up and coach wanted me to start off the 500's at 85. It was a bit chilly and there was a nasty backstretch wind going on, but on the first 2 reps I felt pretty good. Switched into spikes, but wasn't clicking as the reps went on. On the 7th 500 with 150 left my left calf cramped up and I ended up just calling it a workout after that one. No harm done, but a bit disappointed with the workout as a whole. Ran 79-80-80-80-81-82-82. Right before the cool down my left calf cramped up really badly for about 2min. No Bueno. Shout out to Travis though and a big shoutout for the show they're setting up for Regionals.
4/29/15-Wednesday
Workout: 25min run
Mileage: 3.5 miles
Warmed up, stretched and then did a park run. It was a beautiful day with the sun peeking out over BTX. We took an ice bath afterwards and I am feeling better as the week goes by. Today is just prepping for Friday and Saturday. I haven't pr'd in the track in almost one year and I'm hungry for some fast times. This is what I've been preparing for all season. 17 days left of my high school season.
4/30/15-Thursday
Workout: 3 lap w/u, 3 laps of 150 meter build-ups with 50 walk. 5min c/d.
Mileage: 2 miles
My mileage this week is going to be so paltry it's going to be sad. We just got all the kinks out of the system and I'm feeling better in the legs so tomorrow should be a good race. Four races left, let's see what we can do.
5/1/15-Friday
Workout: Regionals. 13min w/u, 3200 @ Regionals-9:18, 2nd, 10min c/d
Mileage: 5.5 miles
Every runner can look at the negatives of a race and be upset about how things didn't go their way, but part of the process of getting better is seeing the positives and how you can improve the next time. The past is the past, just make sure you don't make the same mistake again. Ran a PR and punched my ticket to State and so I'll live to race another day. I felt really good and know there is more in the system so a good day. Timmy and I took an ice bath afterwards and I feel really good going into the 1600 tomorrow. I look forward to the competition and the racing. This is what I train for.
5/2/15-Saturday
Workout: Regionals, 12min w/u, 1600-4:19, 1st, 15min c/d.
Mileage: 4.5 miles
Felt great going into the race and wanted the race to be fast so I tucked in on the first lap and waited. We came through in 66 and so I took off 500 in and no one went with so I ran solo. A bit frustrated about the time, but patience. In two weeks I can guarantee the pace won't be slow so I'll get after it then. It was wicked hot and my feet started to blister on the 2nd lap, but I guess that's what I get for wearing my traditional ankle high, black, Nike socks. Anyways, got the job done this weekend and I'm on to the State meet. The third time is the charm.
5/3/15-Sunday
Workout: Off day
Mileage: 0 miles
Week Mileage: 39 miles
Week in Review:
I have put myself in a good position. A lot of coaches say they want to put themselves in a position to win it when the time comes and that's what I need to do. Abby Gray said it well, “everyone will be ready physically when State comes, I just have to get ready mentally". Big shoutout for our Region IV getting both at large bids in the 1600 and 3200. Raul and Victor will represent well! Train hard and focus now. The time is almost there. Tank out.
