Tank Tuesday: Districts & Promposals

4/13/15-Monday

Workout: 800 w/u, 4x100 build ups. 2-40sec runs @ 24sec/200, 2x600 @1600 race pace, 11min c/d.

Mileage: 3 miles

Today was probably the worst workout I have ever had in high school. I didn't feel fresh at all and wasn't warmed up completely. Plus trying to run 24sec 200's in Nike Pegasus is terrible. My legs felt ok, but my breathing was way off which was frustrating. I did one 600 in 1:36 and felt terrible so coach just told me to not run the other rep. It was very frustrating but really my first bad workout. We all have on and off days and this was my off day.

4/14/15-Tuesday

Workout: 10 min w/u, game day, 10min c/d

Mileage: 4 miles

Today is the ever so popular game day. We play a couple of games of sharks and minnows and then rabid dog. My highlight of the morning was seeing coach actually “chase" some of us around during rabid dog. Throughout my entire high school career I have never seen him play with us or “run" so fast. In the afternoon we had team track photos and then we took an ice bath. Better day but still a bit sore. I'm also really mad I am not getting much mileage… Districts is tomorrow and Thursday and I'm doing the 3200, 1600, and 4x4. Pysched.

4/15/15-Wednesday

Workout: Districts, 15min w/u, 3200-1st, 15min c/d.

Mileage: 6.5 miles

Day one of two days for the District track meet. We ran around 7:30 so the weather was beautiful. My hamstrings are still jacked up from the 40 second runs on Monday and when I was stretching before the 3200 I felt something pop in my left hammy. It was not a good feeling, but I was pain free when running. Ran a tempo for the race and went 9:51. Best part was Timmy got 2nd in 10:11 so we'll be moving on together.

4/16/15-Thursday

Workout: Districts, 1600-1st, 4:33

Mileage: 8 miles

Since this is my last year, one of my mindsets is to enjoy meets like Districts. So I'm out there cheering my heart out for my teammates and looking to help in any way. This included running 3 miles to and fro from a Rose shop to help in a Promposal. Haha, when I was on my way back, I was quite the spectacle. A random person running uphill with a huge bouquet of roses. Cars were honking and people were cheering me on! It was one of the experiences that I'll probably never get to have again, so I'm glad I did it. I'm just trying to enjoy these types of meets before Regionals and State. Ran easy again and ended up scratching the 4x4 because I didn't want to risk my hamstring. Timmy got 2nd again in 4:39 so we're on to the next round. We were also district champs on the boys and girls side!

4/17/15-Friday

Workout: 70min run

Mileage: 10 miles

Ran after school with Timmy in the pouring rain. It was torrents of rain and I loved every bit of it. Just back on the grind again, I'll go easy tomorrow and then we have a real popper of a workout on Sunday. Area is on Wednesday and Thursday and Regionals the following week which is where we hope to PR. One day at a time though.

4/18/15-Saturday

Workout: Easy run

Mileage: 5 miles

Ran with Monty and Sergio at the city park in the afternoon. We ran a classic loop in town and ran easy. Running in Boerne is always awesome and I'm going to miss it this fall. Colorado won't be a bad substitute though.

4/19/15-Sunday

Workout: 15min w/u, 4x60meter strides, 3x800 @1600 race pace, 16min c/d

Mileage: 5.5 miles

Timmy, Hadley, and I met Coach at the track at 5pm. We were the only distance peeps who qualified for the Area meet. It was a bit hot, but I felt good warming up and all. The workout went really well. Coach said to take it conservatively early so I ran 2:08, 2:04, and 2:02. Felt really good and am excited for the Regional track meet. By far the fastest I've ever done this workout, so we'll see how the last four weeks of my season plays out.

Week Mileage: 36.5 miles

Week in Review: It was an ok week overall. I pulled my hamstring a bit, but it is recovery well so no sweat. Mileage wise I was a bit handicapped since we did such small speed on Monday and had meets on Wednesday and Thursday, no sweat though. I moved on to the next round and am a step closer to achieving my goals. A word of advice to all the runner out there: If you don't love running and competing, than you'll never bring the best out of yourself. Tank out.
