Tank Tuesday: Texas Relays | No Excuses

3/23/15-Monday

Workout: 800 w/u, 4x300 at 45 seconds, 7x400 @3min intervals. 20min c/d

Mileage: 6 miles

So I had waffles at 2pm today, some nice hot, crispy, extremely delicious waffles with syrup and strawberry sauce. I also had a hard workout at 4:20. Man… Anyways, today was actually hot, and the Texas heat is tough to run in most of the time. But I cruised through the 300's and then on the 400's actually felt really good. They were tough, but I ran them at 4:12 pace and felt strong. This workout gave me a lot of confidence for TX Relays and I feel like all of my cylinders are clicking. The cool down was once again the toughest part of the workout, but we managed. Very solid day in the bank.

3/24/15-Tuesday

Workout: AM, 35min up tempo run. PM, 40min easy run

Mileage: 10.5 miles

Ran a Classic in the morning which is a loop around Boerne. Always love the route, we ran at a good clip and felt decent. In the PM, I ran during my off period with David Sheppard who runs at Adam State and his brother Mark, aka Shep Daddy. The TX weather was brutal again today making the easy run 10x more difficult. After the run, I played two games of Buff Puff which is a volleyball tournament for guys. The Gods of the Arena won both of our games and we play in the semis tomorrow. Getting psyched for TX Relays. #TXRelays15

3/25/15-Wednesday

Workout: 15min c/u, 4x100 strides, 2x900 @ mile race pace, 15min c/d

Mileage: 5.5 miles

Another nice hot day today taking on this race pace simulator. The goal was to just get more comfortable running at or near race pace and overall I feel like I accomplished it. Ran ok, not great, not bad. After the workout I finished up my cool down and then went off to Buff Puff. Our team ended up getting beat though. It was all games and fun though.

3/26/15-Thursday

Workout: 25min shakeout run. 6x100 strides

Mileage: 3.5 mile

I ran with Monty at the City Park and we ran nice and easy. The strides felt good as I was just shaking out the kinks in preparation for tomorrow. I'll be leaving in the afternoon with Monty to drive up to Austin and I feel ready to go for a big race.

3/27/15-Friday

Workout: Texas Relays, 15min w/u, 1600-4:16, 15min c/d

Mileage: 5.5 miles

Warmed up and felt great going into the race. Ended up 4th overall in 4:16. Overall pretty disappointed with the result, but a lot of positives to take away from today. This is really my 1st “real" race of the season and so going into the last 600 I felt really good, but didn't trust myself to make a move. I feel like I had too much left and didn't kick soon enough, but no excuses I wasn't the best runner out there today. Hats off to Nasta, Viegra, and Brown for their races. This is just fuel in the fire and it is a step in the right direction. I'll be back in 7 weeks.

3/28/15-Saturday

Workout: 25min, 1600 pace work, 25min

Mileage: 8 miles

Ran at 2:30pm with Monty around the city park. I then went to the track and paced my two sisters for a 1600. They both pr'd again in 5:37 on a hot and windy day so I'm excited for them. Finished up the run and then hit up sonic for some recovery. My legs recovered really well. Psyched to see my man Alex Rogers break 9 in the 3200 ftw and it just gives me that much more confidence that I run and compete with anyone in the state. Fuel in the fire.

3/29/15-Sunday

Workout: Off day

Mileage: 0 miles

My body has recovered really well from TX Relays and I'm excited for the upcoming meets. I spent most of the day catching up on school work because I ended missing two days last week, man English is killing me. I was also able to text some of the other Air Force recruits and it's really excited. We now have 8 guy distance recruits coming in and it is the coolest feeling to know you are going to train with them day in and day out this fall.

Week Mileage: 39 miles

Week in Review:

This week was good and bad. Mostly good, but a bit of disappointment. TX Relays was a really good race, but it was also frustrating. I know that I can run a lot faster in the 1600, especially after feeling so great upon finishing and recovering so well after the race. Seeing Alex Rogers in the 3200 gave me a sharper mentality and so I'm excited for this upcoming race next week. It's time to get the season rolling. Game time.

I never want to feel like I didn't give it my all again. I've felt it way too many times on this track.
