Boys 6A

What wasn't a highlight in this race should be the question! The leaders were packed up all they way to the finish. It seemed like the race wasn't fully decided until the last hill when things finally started to string out. Looking out toward the levee from the finish chute, I could see them all packed up and thought no way, this is going to be a crazy finish! Sure enough it was, the top 10 finished only 17 seconds apart. The pack was led by The Woodlands' Daniel Golden in first and Noah Wells in second, the pair were only separated by a second. Coming across the line in third was 2014 state champion David Strome. The team from the Woodlands dominated the competition scoring 24 points placing all of their top five in the top 10 and six in the top 20. The top five only had a 0:19 1-5 Split! Southlake Carroll led by junior Reed Brown (4th overall) finished 2nd scoring 103 points. In a bit of a surprise finish the guys from Flower Mound came in third scoring 112 points.

Julia Heymach Photo By: Travis Miller

This race definitely lived up to it's hype! On the individual side Julia Heymach ran away with the race. The junior ran almost 0:30 seconds faster then the rest of the field. She remains undefeated this year and adds a State Cross Country Championship onto her state title resume. Sophomores Reagan Kappel and Abbey Santoro going 2-3 in the stacked field with tons of senior talent was one of the biggest surprises of the meet. Marcus ended up taking the team title with 78 points having several of their runners step up big. This was the title they were aiming for all year after finishing runner up in 2014. Southlake Carroll took the second spot scoring 87 points running a 1-5 split of 0:29 seconds.

The last podium spot in the epic 6A team battle went to the ladies from Keller. We knew they were good after placing second in Region 1 but this performance really solidified they are the real deal! They don't have any seniors, and will be looking to continue to make big jumps in years to come. (By the way this was one of our bold predictions)

**** Also something worth noting the top three class 6A teams in the girls race were from Region 1, and all four were in the top five.
