Cameron White talks working hard on and off the track

Summer Creek's Cameron White is one of the top returning 800m runners in the state.  We caught up with White during the winter break.  Check out our Q and A with White.

TX MileSplit : Last year, you had quite the motivating factor of competing against a district opponent who was one of the fastest high school runners in the nation, in Myles Marshall.  What is your driving force this season?

Cameron:  My driving force this season is to improve my state rank in both the 400 and the 800.  Trying to become #1 motivates me to run harder in my meets.

TX MileSplit:  You had a 4 second PR (from 1:57-1:53.53) at the District meet.  What were some of the key workouts your coach had you doing to contribute to that performance?

Cameron My coaches mostly worked on our tempo and pacing during the season.  We would run ladders like 600 and down at uncomfortable paces.  Some days we would do tempo 200s at about 27 seconds.

TX MileSplit:  What are your goals or target times for this upcoming season?

Cameron:  My goal this season is to work hard on and off of the track.  I want to eat better because I know I have a lot to prove this upcoming season.  I also plan to go passed my limits even when under pressure.  I also want to beat all 6 of my records on our school record board.  I want to put better times on them.

TX MileSplit:  Your freshman and sophomore seasons you came to a Summer Creek squad that were the team State champions.  A lot of those teammates have now graduated, what is it like with you being a veteran and having one of the leadership roles on the team?

Cameron:  It's like being a mentor or someone the younger generation looks up to.  All the things that the Summer Creek greats like Aaron George, Aaron Sharp, Jake Bootz, Josh Lecesne, and Xavier Lightener have taught me I now get to pass down to the younger guys.  It's passing the torch, so when they are in my position they will know how to teach the new runners coming to the program.

TX MileSplit:  Later this year, the new super hero movie Batman vs Superman comes out.  In your opinion, who is the better superhero and who wins a battle between the two, and why?

Cameron In my opinion, Batman would win because Superman's weakness is Kryptonite.....What man's weakness is a rock?
