Chase Martin talks making the jump from 4A to 6A

We caught up to Chase Martin of Houston Memorial during the winter break for a quick Q and A.

TX MileSplit:  How did you feel at the end of last season about your accomplishments from the season?

Chase:  I felt confident because even with the stress of moving around so much and changing coaches my accomplishments reminded me why I work so hard in track.

TX MileSplit:  You moved to Houston from Marble Falls last year, what was the transition like coming from a 4A school to a big 6A school and competing against the level of competition you saw last year?

Chase:  I won't lie, I definitely had to work harder and change my mentality from "this won't be too hard" to "I need to crave success."  My workouts at Marble Falls were college level work outs, so coming to 6A wasn't the scariest thing.  I was just as excited to be competing against other really serious and talented athletes.

TX MileSplit:  What do you miss about Marble Falls?

Chase:  The thing I miss the most about Marble Falls is the family atmosphere that was present during track season.  You can never replace that same kind of family connection with a large school.

TX MileSplit:  You concluded the season with new and impressive PRs (14.12 and 43.4), how did it feel to have your hard work pay off?

Chase:  It was breathtaking to see my PRSs of 14.12 and 43.4.  It definitely encouraged me to keep working hard and has given me a sense of hope that I can only get faster.

TX MileSplit:  What are your goals for this upcoming season?

Chase:  My main goals for this track season are to run in the 13s in the 100H and 42 in the 300H.

TX MileSplit:  Do you have any pre meet/race rituals?  If so, what are they?

Chase:  Well, before a meet/race, I don't really have any spectacular rituals, but I do make sure I eat a "power meal."  For breakfast I HAVE to have bananas and oatmeal!  I don't have any outrageous dances though that's for sure?

TX MileSplit:  Pancakes or waffles?

Chase:  PANCAKES!

TX MileSplit:  What is the best Christmas present that you've received of all time?

Chase:  Oh gosh, that's hard because I always appreciate every gift I'm given, but I'll have to go with a painting made by my younger brother and sister.  It's a very....colorful decoration.
