Shamon Ehiemua is not a big fan of 400m

Ft Bend Marshall's Shamon Ehiemua is the defending 5A 200m champion.  Ehiemua looks to have an awesome junior campaign.  Check out his Q and A with TX MileSplit.

TX MileSplit:  How did it feel having the team success that you guys have had the last several years and finally winning it all last year?

Shamon:  Getting runner up at state to most schools would seem like a victory, but to us it was defeat.  We didn't see that as a success because we could've won.  All that did was ignite an even bigger fire.  Track season came back around, we trained like maniacs and got the "success" that we knew we could achieve.  Not only winning the state title or setting a 5A state record in the 4x200, but being the best team to do it in UIL history.

TX MileSplit:  Last year, you had Amere Lattin, Gerald Mills, and other seniors that helped lead Marshall.  What is your leadership role on this year's squad now that those guys have graduated?

Shamon:  Being the "face" of a team can be difficult and a bit much at times, but when you have a team full of leaders it makes it that much easier.  We all push each other and we encourage each other.  This is what makes my team so great.

TX MileSplit:  Last year, as a sophomore, you won the state meet in the 200m with a 20.89.  What are your goals for this year in the 100m and the 200m?

Shamon:  This year, I will be focusing more on the 200m again and looking to defend my state title.  As for the 100m, that will take a huge role in my training process by getting me faster and sharpening me for the 200m.

TX MileSplit:  Over the summer, you ran a 47.92, are there any plans for more open 400s and more 4x400 appearances?

Shamon:  As much as I HATE the 400, you will be seeing me on more 4x400s this year, so be ready, lol.  When it comes to the 200m though, I usually wait until around district to run it only because I focus more on the 100m during the regular season.

TX MileSplit:  While attempting to qualify for the USA World Youth team, you pulled up with an injury that ended your season.  What was your rehab like?  Did you learn anything from the situation?  How is everything now, leading into the season?

Shamon:  I never knew how much an injury could take a toll on you, not only physically, but also mentally.   It was hard to overcome, more so on the mental aspect, but rehab did help.  I did rehab for about two months and it reassured me that I was going to be okay.  The situation taught me that the little thigs still matter no matter how "fast" you get.  As of now, my leg is back to 100% and I'm just ready to compete.

TX MileSplit:  If there is one thing we all know about Ft. Bend Marshall it is that you guys always have stylish and awesome uniforms.  Can you give us some insight on this year's uniforms?

Shamon:  LOL, I can't tell you too much...but just know, heads will be turning!

TX MileSplit:  Later this year the Batman vs Superman movie comes out.  In your opinion, who wins in a battle between the two?

Shamon:  Batman is NOT a superhero, he's just good with weapons and equipment.  Superman would most definitely win the battle.....heat vision, flight, super human strength and senses...he can't be beat, LOL.

TX MileSplit:  What are your goals for this season?

Shamon:  My goals for this upcoming season are to set my personal best in all of my events, to win state again as a team, and to defend my state title in the 200m.
