Summer Traning Blog Week 6: Aaliya Fazel Take Over!

Monday: Today was the first day of school, and we started off with practice at 6:30. We had another fartlek workout this week, and we did them on our grassy field so we could get used to muddy conditions. The workout was a little more difficult due to the slower times on the grass, so we did have to push ourselves. We got in a total of 8-miles and finished with an ab/arm workout.

Tuesday: We had a recovery run with our running groups today. We did 4 miles, and then we went up to our hill to do some form drills and exercises. After a long day at school, we met up and ran two more miles in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Today we got to school at 6:00 because our coach prepared a presentation for us. It was a nice way for us to learn some cool things about him and his family, and that he's a pretty funny guy! After the meeting, we warmed up for our pace run. Our main focus was to try and run fast, even miles, so we had to focus on changing speeds the second half of the workout. We finished off the day with the core/strength workout.

Thursday: We had another recovery run at about the same pace we went on Tuesday. We did 4 in the morning, and then we did an ab/arm workout. We all met up after school again for a 3-mile run.

Friday: We had a nice, easy run because it's the day before the meet. We did our run in the morning and then biked in the afternoon because it was lightning. We also made sure we took an ice bath so we are fully prepared for the race tomorrow. After school, we had our team pasta dinner so we could load up on carbs and have some fun team bonding.

Saturday: Today was super exciting because it was race day! This was my team's first time running at the Greenhill Relays, so we were all very interested in seeing the course. We had 2 varsity teams, our first team was (in order from first to fourth leg): Amanda, Abby, Hannah, and myself. Our second girls team was Madi, Paige, Nevaeh, and Annie. The hay bales made this course really unique, and it was nice to have a fun run before Marcus I next week. Our first girls team was 3rd place overall, and our second team was 6th, so we were pleased with our results. Our boys, Myles, Conner, Dylan, and Adam, also did a really great job, getting 3rd overall in the varsity division, too. One of our JV Girls teams (Alyssa, Brielle, Abby H., and Mia) also medaled, so it was an eventful day for all of us.

Sunday: Some of us met up at a trail for a long run. We had 8-miles and went a pretty good pace. We are all super pumped for this upcoming week of training to get ready for our first 5K race!
