Summer Traning Blog Week 5: Abby Riordan

Monday: We started off today at 6:00 at Hebron for practice. Today's workout would be a little new to us, because we are doing more of a fartlek type of run. I liked the workout as a whole because I felt comfortable for the most part of the workout. We got in a total of 7 miles today including 2 miles of warm up and cool down.

Tuesday: Today we did a recovery type of workout, but a little faster than recovery pace. We ran with our running  groups to focus on team dynamics and working with each other during the workout. After completing the run, we went to the hill on our one-mile loop to do a little bit of hill exercises for practice. Today we did 4 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.

Wednesday: Today we came to practice to begin our pace run after a 2 mile warm up. We did our workout on the track so we could focus on making every lap even and trying to stay at a consistent pace the whole workout. The beginning of the workout was easy, and then when I got to the back half it got a little harder to reach the pace I was aiming for. This workout was a little hard for me because I am so used to going out hard and trying to hold on the rest of the time and it was weird to not go all out at the beginning.

Thursday: We did another run today at about 70% just like the workout on Tuesday. We also did the same mileage as Tuesday (4 in the morning and 3 later). I felt pretty good the whole workout, which made me excited for tomorrow because it's our first meet of the season. Today, after my second run, I took an ice bath to make any tightness in my legs to go away and to feel good for the meet tomorrow.

Friday: Today is meet day!! We all met up this morning to get our uniforms and lockers for the season and to be prepared for the meet. During the day it rained quite a bit, but we weren't worried because we already had experience with muddy courses. We then met again at Hebron at 4:15, and set off for the meet at about 5pm. When we got to the meet we had to sit on the bus for a little while, until the rain stopped. Then we walked the course and got ready to watch the other runners race. With one race before ours, we began to warm up and did about a 2 mile warm up and then stretched and strided to get ready to race. The race went out hard, but our times weren't fast because of the muddy course. I ended up getting third with a 12:12, which was okay, but I felt like I could have done better. I was super proud of my team today for winning the meet and having a super small spread, which is really good for this early in the season.

Saturday: Today I only had a four mile recovery run. I didn't really feel sore at all today, which was good. I ran at the lake trail just to get off the normal courses so I don't get too bored. I felt good today and was able to go my pace easily.

Sunday: Today is long run day, and also the last day of summer, which is super sad, but I'm ready to go back to school because it means more cross country meets. I had 9-miles today and we all went back to the trail in Grapevine, because it makes our long runs go by a lot quicker than if we did them at Hebron.  I went a pretty good pace today and ran with my teammate Aaliya pretty much the whole time. Today is bittersweet because it's officially the end of summer, but it just means we are getting closer to bigger meets.
