Summer Training Blog: Abby Riordan Aqua-Jogging, Team Pictures, and Marcus I

Summer Traning Blog Week 7: Abby Riordan

Monday: Today we started off our week with a fartlek workout. We did 2 miles warm up and cool down. I felt comfortable the whole workout and I was able to make the time I was aiming for during the workout. The fartlek was 200-meter rest then 200-meter hard, which I like the style of this workout because I could focus on each individual 200. After the workout, we did a small core workout for strengthening. After school, some of us met up after school at Amanda's house to aqua-jog for some cross training.

Tuesday: We did a 70% run today trying to hit our pace consistent the whole workout, not quite at recovery pace. As we get more in shape, these types of runs have become a little quicker each time, which is nice to see progress. We got in a total of 4 miles today. Then for our strength today, we did a little bit more than Monday with some weight, practicing form and core.

Wednesday: For practice today, we had our pace run. My running group did really well today hitting every mile the same time of 6:25. I was really happy that we were able to hit the pace we were aiming for, for the whole run. I felt really good the first two miles, then I really had to focus the last couple to hit the pace we had been running. We did a small amount of core after the workout again. After school, we biked for 30 minutes for more cross-training.

Thursday: Today is the same type of workout that Tuesday was. We ran a good pace the whole time and had a little more mileage in the morning because we weren't doing an afternoon run today. Our coach actually ran with us today which was a fun bonding type thing. We did our loop for the first few and then ran barefoot for the last one on the turf. After our run, we went up to the hill to get in a small hill workout and form drills. I was feeling pretty tired, but I knew I had to push through it to get better. After school we took our team pictures.

Friday: For our run today, we did our 70% pace and kept it the whole time. My whole running group felt pretty good today as we could talk for most the run. We are all also super excited for our first 5k of the season tomorrow. After the morning run, I ice-cupped and rolled my legs out. We then had an afternoon shake out type run and strides. We ended off with an ice bath that was under 30 degrees because freshman made it. Later today we went to Hannah's house for our pasta dinner and team bonding.

Saturday: Race day. We met at the school at 4:45 to leave at around 5:15. When we got to the course we began our warm-up around the course. The race was not exactly what we wanted to run, but we learned from it. One quote that helped me get though the day was "It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." Even though we didn't compete how we wanted, to we still had 5 girls PR on varsity: Aaliya, Hannah, Paige, Madi, and Alyssa.

Sunday: Today we had a 9-mile long run. I felt pretty decent today, except my legs were a little dead. Aaliya and I went a little faster than normal, but we felt good enough to go a faster pace. We ran at Stewart's Creek Park in The Colony, which was nice to be by the lake as the sun came up.
