Texas UIL 100m Champs Battle The Nation's Best At Adidas 100 Invitation

Kalon Barnes wins the 4A 100m

Two of Texas' top sprinters are two of the top dual sports athletes in Texas. They took their sprint talent to Boston, Massachusetts to take on the rest of the best in the U.S.

Silsbee High junior Kalon Barnes is the 4A 100m state champ. Barnes is also a 4 star football recruit who committed to Baylor on May 4. Barnes received the invite to Boston when he ran his 10.22 at the state meet. Two weeks prior to that he placed second at the Region 2-6A meet running 10.35 and 10.44.

Manvel High senior Caleb Jolivette is the 5A 100m state champ. He too is a football star. In fact, Jolivette graduated last weekend and was enrolled in college courses two days later at Sam Houston State University to begin his course work load and football workouts. Jolivette actually finished classes on Friday, drove back to Houston and flew to Boston. Jolivette, who is the 2017 New Balance Nationals Indoor 60m champ won his Region 3-5A race with a 10.37 to qualify him for state where he won it in 10.31.

Barnes and Jolivette took on the nation's best 100m sprinters including Florida's dual sport athletes Chauncy Smart , Lavonte Valentine, and Anthony Schwartz. Barnes came away with what is a big time national win for the junior with his 10.34 and Jolivette took 5th in 10.82.

Remember these two guys. We might not see much more of them on the track but will see them playing college football on Saturdays and may possibly see them playing football on Sundays, in the near future.
