UIL Texas State Meet: Can They Be Stopped At State?

DeSoto Girls -- Can't Be Stopped

The 44.44 girls are heading to Austin clicking on all cylinders. They also have business to finish and some big goals they want to accomplish before they start celebrating.

The 4x100 relay has already set the national record, but they still have to get the state record. That can only be done at the state meet in Austin.

If the Region 1-6A Meet proved anything, it proved that the Lady Eagles are in good fitness. Not only did they run well in the 4x100, but they also won the regional 4x200 relay (1:36.09) and 4x400 relay (3:40.07) titles. That poses the question of whether they can set more than just one state record this week. The 4x200 record is possibly in reach (1:34.51) as is the 4x400 record (3:37.85).

Three relay wins just might be enough to capture the state meet team championship. That would make four in a row for DeSoto, and now that the time is here, you have got to think they aren't going to be pushing for that. If something doesn't go right in the relays, they have enough individual event fire power heading to Austin as well.

DeSoto state meet qualifiers with US Top 10 rankings
They have 10 individual state meet qualifiers from the hurdles, sprints, and field events who will make for a busy and possible productive day for the girls in green and gold.

Not only are relay records in jeopardy this weekend, DeSoto could also set the record for the most team points ever scored.

Can anyone get in their way? Of course it is possible. Right behind the loaded DeSoto relay squads are the Duncanville girls. They have been on fire in the last couple of years and they haven't taken a downward turn. They have been just a elite as DeSoto and could possibly put a dent in the amount of double points DeSoto plans to earn from the relays.

Team wise, the other teams with the most entries who even have a remote chance at winning the UIL 6A state tile is Katy Cinco Ranch, The Woodlands, Cypress Woods, Flower Mound, Marcus, Austin Vandegrift, and San Antonio Reagan.

DeSoto seems to be unstoppable even if they have some unexpected hiccups.
